Every version’s a problem. Pick your poison.

Mariel Hixenbaugh is a writer from Des Moines, Iowa. She is editing her debut novel, Ashes of Whiteshade. It is a speculative-literary story about survival and memory, told through fractured voices that loop back on themselves.
Her nonfiction is upcoming in Hobart, where she confronts bipolar disorder and the compulsion to keep moving when nothing makes sense. Other work has appeared in Streetlight Magazine.
Across forms, she builds character-driven worlds that resist tidy conclusions and leave the seams showing.
